What the edit looks for

For this format, editorial attention often centers on opening focus, paragraph sequence, transitions, tone, evidence, and the relationship between the headline and the piece. The exact scope depends on the stage of the draft and the work already completed.

We distinguish a clear editorial correction from a decision that belongs to the author or project owner. Questions about meaning, facts, or commitments are raised rather than silently resolved.

Choose the right stage

If the piece changes direction midway, structural feedback may come first. If the argument is settled, a line edit can sharpen the movement of the prose before a final copyedit.

An agreed brief identifies the deliverables, review surface, file format, schedule, and revision arrangements. Specialist checking and additional production tasks should be named explicitly.

What to bring

Prepare the draft, publication context, audience, target length, submission requirements, and any passages whose wording needs particular care. Tell us which parts are still changing and who will approve the final version.

For an initial inquiry, send a summary rather than sensitive source material. We can agree on document sharing after discussing the project.

A useful check before you start

Read the opening and ending together. The ending need not repeat the opening, but it should feel earned by the questions and material the article introduced.

After the edit

Allow time to review tracked changes and respond to questions. If you add substantial new material or move the text into a different layout, plan a final check of the resulting version.
